GOLDSON DELIGHTED WITH THREE POINTS

CONNOR GOLDSON was understandably delighted to be the match-winner in this afternoon’s Old Firm derby – but he was quick to caution how early in the season it still is.

Goldson netted early in both halves to hand Rangers a thoroughly deserved 2-0 win over the other half of the Old Firm at Parkhead – but to him it’s just another three points on the road to where Gers eventually want to get to.

Speaking to RangersTV, Goldson said: “It has been a great day, but it is still very early in the season. It is a massive three points as every single Old Firm game is, but we have a lot of games to play. We go now onto the European game and onto the game with Livingston next weekend.

For me, the clean sheet is just as important. Fil [Helander] and I have just been talking about it there – even with a minute to go, you know the game is won but you don’t want to concede a goal.

“We want to keep the clean sheet record and keep as many as we can over this season. We did limit the chances against a good side.

“We had to concentrate for the full 94 minutes and we managed to do that.

“We know it is a massive season for the whole club, and we know we have to be at it in every single game and every minute of every game.

“We know a one or a 10 minute spell where we’re not at it can hurt us and hurt our whole season.

“We are just trying to be as consistent as we can, work as hard as we can in every single game and hopefully, that takes us to where we want to be.”

REACTION | CONNOR GOLDSON | CELTIC 0-2 RANGERS

Goldson’s opening goal came from a super James Tavernier delivery – on that, he explained:

“I had a word before it with Tav having seen how they set up. I just said to him to try and get it over the first man’s head as I was going to go front post.

“I know [Shane] Duffy from Brighton and I said to keep it away from him – I saw he was at the back post so I said to put it between Ajer and the forward, and luckily, it managed to work – I was onside and I was delighted.”

For Goldson, the only thing which could have made things even better today would have been the ability to go and celebrate in front of the small band of traveling fans normally present at Parkhead.

He added: “100 percent – even when I scored the goals I didn’t really know what to do – there were no fans, no cameras and I ran over to that far corner and there was nothing there!

“I’m delighted, but it’s not the same without the fans and hopefully we will see them soon.”
