Beale really wants Rangers to sign player as wages freed up at Ibrox, loan on the cards – report

Rangers have freed up wages in a bid to secure the signing of Leicester City defender Harry Souttar, according to the Daily Record.

The newspaper reported on its website on 28 August that Michael Beale is keen to sign the Australian international after being a “long-term admirer” of the centre-back and tracking him for a number of weeks.

But it said the problem will come down to the financials involved, which means a loan move for the 24-year-old is more likely after Ianis Hagi was loaned out to Deportivo Alaves on 27 August to get him off the wage bill.

Possible

This is a deal that Rangers will likely feel confident that they can get over the line as the transfer deadline approaches due to Souttar’s situation at Leicester.

Since Enzo Maresca joined the English Championship side, the defender has dropped down the pecking order and doesn’t appear to have much of a future at the King Power Stadium.

He hasn’t been included in a single matchday squad since the opening day of the season, which means a loan move must be a possibility.

It’s unlikely the Gers would have the cash to sign him outright initially because the Foxes would likely be keen to recoup a large portion of the £15million they paid to sign him from Stoke City in January.

With his brother John Souttar already playing for the Light Blues and his playing time currently being limited, you would think the player would be interested in a move, so a deal could be possible if they can agree on terms with Leicester over the next few days.

In other Rangers news, a journalist believes a make-or-break situation is just around the corner for Beale.
