Dessers shares ‘Luxury’ verdict on Rangers squad amid Beale headache

Cyriel Dessers believes Rangers have a “massive advantage” ahead of facing PSV due to the form of their attacking players.

The Gers travel to Philips Stadion on Wednesday [30 August] level at 2-2 in their Champions League play-off tie after a thrilling first leg in Glasgow.

Abdallah Sima and Rabbi Matondo were on target for the Gers at Ibrox, with the latter’s early-season form a major surprise.

Dessers, who has two goals in seven matches, is quoted by The Herald [29 August] as saying: “I think that can only be seen as a positive.

“I think all the attackers have scored a goal now this season and we are still in August.

“That is a massive advantage for us and we should give the manager a headache with this.

“But it is also a luxury option for him because he can bring in every player and he knows every profile will be dangerous and can be dangerous.”

Options

Rangers have scored 13 goals in their past six matches since suffering a shock defeat to Kilmarnock on the opening weekend of the Scottish Premiership season.

After a high turnover of players in the summer, Michael Beale will be pleased that his new attackers have each got off the mark.

More pleasing than that, though, has been the way Matondo has stepped up when given a chance, having struggled badly in his first season at Ibrox.

It means Beale now has the option of starting Matondo out wide against PSV, or instead – and more likely – bring him on as a fresh pair of legs around the hour mark, depending on the scoreline at the time.

Rangers

Dessers may only have scored one goal from open play this season, but he has had plenty of promising moments and played a part in both first-leg goals against PSV, including a fabulous assist for Matondo’s strike.

Whoever is selected against the Dutch heavyweights, the travelling Gers supporters will be confident that their side can score goals in the Netherlands.

As Dessers himself said, it gives Beale a bit of a “headache” in terms of selection, but a headache he will very much welcome.

In other Rangers news, another player could be on their way out of Ibrox this week.
