Confirmed: Key player ruled out of Rangers clash v St Johnstone as Beale provides injury update

Rangers will be without Todd Cantwell for the next three or four games due to injury, manager Michael Beale has confirmed ahead of the clash with St Johnstone.

The former Norwich man has picked up a knock and will miss the game, while fellow midfielder Kieran Dowell will also miss the game.

Tom Lawrence is now “fully fit” and Kemar Roofe is also available for the game, as Beale battles for his job after a poor start to the campaign.

“The strongest team will play the next game,” he said. “Tom Lawrence is now fully fit, Roofe is in a really good place.

“Unfortunately Todd Cantwell will miss the next 3 or 4 games, and Dowell will also miss out.

“Todd was an issue with his knee in a challenge towards the end of the game. He should be returning in 3/4 weeks. Kieran is now back jogging and should be 3/4 weeks away also.”

Must win

Baring in mind that we are only about to play our fifth league game of the season, the fact that it is being considered as a must-win game is frightening.

The summer transfer window was seen by many as a success, with nine first-team players coming in and Michael Beale getting the vast majority of his business done early.

But as come back after the first international break of the season we’re already four points off the pace in the league after losing at Ibrox to a poor Celtic side, and we’re not in the Champions League either after being thumped by PSV Eindhoven.

In fact, the only positive is that we’re in the League Cup quarter-final and Celtic aren’t but even that was an event that had us sweating against lower league opposition.

Beale has to turn this around and quickly, starting with Saturday’s clash against St Johnstone. No more excuses either, just get the job done.
