‘Calm down’ – Kris Boyd clashes with Sky Sports pundit live on air amid Rangers and Celtic swipe

Kris Boyd leapt to the defence of Rangers live on Sky Sports after Clinton Morrison took a swipe at the club amid Celtic’s recent successes.

Celtic have won the last two league titles and were heavy favourites to do so again this season, but it’s the Bears who find themselves top of the table after a stunning turnaround since the appointment of Philippe Clement earlier this campaign.

But after Morrison claimed live on Sky Sports (2 March) that the title is usually already wrapped up in Celtic’s favour by this point of the season, Boyd was quick to jump in and defend his club.

“Boydy, because usually the league’s over by now,” he said. “Celtic have usually won it by now so obviously the Rangers manager has come in.

Boyd responded quickly to shut that talk down though, telling Morrison to “calm down”.

Rangers have 55 titles, Mr. Morrison

It’s interesting that Morrison has the belief that Celtic usually waltz to a title based on the last two seasons alone.

Rangers have more league titles with 55 across their history, while there has hardly been a dynasty in Glasgow recently considering the last three titles have been shared 2-1 and it’s Rangers who are currently top of the table.

There has been a real mentality and momentum shift this season with the Ibrox club hunting down a huge lead and overtaking their fierce rivals, while the returning Brendan Rodgers has struggled.

The title race isn’t over by any stretch of the imagination at this stage, but it’s Rangers who are in the driver’s seat for the first time in a long time.

Boyd did the right thing to jump in and correct him, even if it was just light-hearted, tongue-in-cheek banter from Morrison. He clearly hasn’t got a clue what he’s talking about when it comes to the SPFL.
