Chris Sutton has shared his immediate reaction after Rangers slipped to a disappointing 2-1 defeat to Motherwell in the Scottish Premiership.
Philippe Clement’s side missed an opportunity to extend their lead at the top of the Premiership table as they were well beaten by Stuart Kettlewell’s side on Saturday (2 March) despite James Tavernier’s excellent second-half penalty.
The Light Blues’ defeat gives Brendan Rodgers’ Celtic side a chance to return top of the table when they face Hearts on Sunday (3 March) as three points would see them leapfrog Rangers and move one point clear.
Taking to X after the full-time whistle (2 March) Sutton simply posted an eye emoji, with no further photo or comment.
Can Rangers still win the Premiership ahead of Celtic?
Saturday’s clash at Ibrox was the perfect opportunity for Rangers to show that they were serious about beating Celtic to the Premiership title this season, but for whatever reason, Clement’s side never really appeared to be at the races.
Cyriel Dessers was off the pace from the off, John Souttar got himself in a complete tangle for the opener all while the usually excellent Tavernier and John Lundstram struggled to really create any genuine chances.
It was by no means a perfect display and there were perhaps signs that this sort of performance was coming in the Gers’ win over Kilmarnock last time out, but Clement’s side will not win any more silverware this season if they continue to perform like that.
Hopefully, Saturday’s performance was just a one off and the Light Blues will quickly bounce back, but there will be one or two nervous faces watching the Hoops clash with Hearts tomorrow hoping that the Edinburgh side can do Clement’s team a big favour.
