‘Huge’ – BBC Sportscene pundit makes new Celtic prediction after Rangers loss today

Neil McCann has insisted the SPFL clash between Celtic and Hearts on 3 March will be “huge” after Rangers lost to Motherwell at Ibrox.

Philippe Clement’s side were two points clear of their Old Firm rivals heading into the weekend, but a defeat has given Celtic the chance to move back into first place.

McCann has claimed it will now be back to the drawing board for Rangers, with the Celtic game likely to alter how the table looks at the end of the weekend.

Speaking live on BBC Sportscene [2 March, 19:46], McCann shared: “It’s back to the drawing board now because you have to feel that the game tomorrow could have a huge outlook on how the table will look on Monday.”

Will Celtic leapfrog Rangers to the top of the SPFL?

After a shock defeat at Ibrox and the first home defeat of Clement’s tenure, Celtic have found themselves back in with a chance of going top of the table – something Rangers had been hoping to hold on to for the remainder of the season.

Ally McCoist was highly critical of Gers’ performance, singling out Connor Goldson and Cyriel Dessers in a display of how frustrating and crucial that defeat could prove to be in the race for the title.

His criticism has come after previously calling both Old Firm sides “bang average” in the latest sign of his frustration with where Rangers are, as well as their rivals. This defeat will pile on top of any existing frustration from both McCoist and the fans.

Rangers manager Philippe Clement
Philippe Clement has overseen an excellent turnaround at Rangers.

Hope is not lost for the Ibrox club, however. Celtic’s inconsistent performances this season are what saw Rangers leapfrog them, to begin with, so it is not beyond the realms of expectations that they could drop points at Tynecastle.
