‘It looks terrible’ – BBC Sportscene pundit reacts to Rangers v Motherwell incident live on air

James McFadden has insisted that the challenge on Ross McCausland looked “terrible” in Rangers 2-1 defeat against Motherwell on Saturday 2 March.

The Northern Irish international was forced off after a heavy challenge by Dan Casey, who eventually went on to score the winner at Ibrox.

McFadden admitted that despite looking terrible, a yellow card was the right decision as there was no contact with the studs of Casey in the challenge.

Speaking live on BBC Sportscene on 2 March [19:48], McFadden broke down the tackle with numerous angles of the challenge.

“The tackle initially, it looks terrible,” he said.

“I have to say from this angle, I can totally understand the frustration from the side and look, he goes to ground, you can see his foot there but he doesn’t actually make the contact with his studs which I think people thought.

“Unfortunately, for McCausland, he has to go off, it is a heavy challenge but I think a yellow is the correct decision.”

Rangers injury news could hurt them at Ibrox

It is unknown whether or not McCausland will be sidelined for weeks at Ibrox, but it would be a real blow for Clement, who has delivered great success by rotating his squad heavily.

Everyone can complain as much as they like about the officials, VAR and the SFA, but that will get the club nowhere with the performance nowhere near good enough.

Rangers cannot start blaming others for their lacklustre defending and shocking finishing in the final third, but that happens in some games.

Rangers manager Philippe Clement
Philippe Clement has overseen an excellent turnaround at Rangers.

Now, it is all about bouncing back.

Consistency is key, and if the Bears can react as they did after losing the last Old Firm, they will no doubt go into the split top of the Scottish Premiership.

Hopefully, better news comes out about McCausland after the serious blow to Oscar Cortes was confirmed by Clement before the defeat earlier at Ibrox.

The injury luck is just not in right now.
