Rangers Women star ruled as Jo Potter shares new injury update ahead of Hibs showdown

Rangers Women manager Jo Potter has confirmed that Kirsty Maclean is facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines ahead of the Gers’ clash with Hibernian.

Potter’s Light Blues are hoping to extend their lead at the top of the Scottish Women’s Premiership when they face Hibs on Sunday (3 March) as they look to get back to winning ways following the February international break.

But the Gers have been hit by a bit of an injury crisis during the break with a number of key stars including Kirsty Howat, Libby Bance, Rachel McLauchlan and Maclean all set to miss Sunday’s clash.

Speaking to RangersTV on Saturday (1 March) she said: “Rachel has had a niggly injury that we thought we could rehab her but unfortunately, she ended up having a knee operation to sort that out. She should be out for another couple of weeks but we are hopefully going to see her in the next month.

“We are not going to see Kirsty Maclean anytime soon, unfortunately. Hopefully, we will see Libby back first and then dripping in Rachel and Kirsty after that and then a month or so down the line we will be looking to see Kirsty Maclean back in action.”

Big injury blow in Rangers title hopes after Celtic showdown

Rangers have a nice lead at the top of the Premier League at the moment, sitting four points clear of Glasgow rivals Celtic after 21 matches, having drawn in the Old Firm derby prior to the February international break.

That game was shrouded in controversy after Celtic fans were stopped from attending the fixture, a decision which a number of high-profile people in football disagreed with and were frustrated by.

However, with that incident now behind Potters’ side, she will be hoping that her team can get back to winning ways despite being majorly impacted by injuries during the international break.

Hopefully, the Light Blues can continue to top of the table and push for the title this season, just as Philipp Clement’s side are doing in the Scottish Premiership.
