‘Woeful’ – David Edgar namedrops SPFL after what Muir did in Rangers loss v Motherwell

David Edgar, host of the Heart & Hand podcast, has hit out at referee Alan Muir for his performance in the 2-1 Rangers defeat to Motherwell at Ibrox.

Edgar described the referee as “woeful” even by the standard of officiating in the SPFL, going as far as to compare Muir to Stevie Wonder after VAR intervened to award a penalty.

Rangers have been on the end of a few controversial refereeing decisions and displays so far this season, with this against Motherwell the latest of those.

Taking to X at half-time, Edgar fumed: “We had a very poor start and got punished. A lot of the ball since but unable to break them down. Hopefully [we’ll] see Lawrence for Raskin at HT.

“Ref, even by SPFL standards, has been woeful,” before later in the game, following Rangers’ equaliser, he wrote: “VAR gives a penalty only Stevie Wonder and the ref didn’t see and Tav scores.”

The Rangers v SPFL referee saga continues at Ibrox

Willie Collum has been the main focus of Rangers’ criticism this season, with the club even requesting that he officiate no more of their league games this season in a statement which drew plenty of criticism from pundits.

Now, though, Muir is the latest on the apparent hit list of the fans, after yet another disappointing performance from a referee against Rangers – something which has started to become a bit of a theme of this season.

The defeat to Motherwell has sparked plenty of frustration, with Celtic now handed the opportunity to go back to the top of the table if they can take all three points away from their clash with Hearts on 3 March.

However, it’s important to note that the result was more down to a poor display from Philippe Clement’s men than any officiating decisions, as frustrating as some of the calls may have been in the league defeat today.

In other Rangers news, Mohamed Diomande has been slammed after his display.
