‘Right now…’ – Journalist shares Rangers and Clement priorities as ‘growing concern’ emerges

The journalist added, however, that manager Philippe Clement will not sacrifice one competition over another.

The Belgian has already lifted the League Cup this season, with his side also in contention to win the league, Scottish Cup and Europa League.

“But right now, the prize the Ibrox legions desire most in Premiership gold and there remains a growing concern amongst the Gers support that fighting on all fronts could cost Clement’s side dear,” Newport wrote for the Daily Record.

“Clement, though, has brushed off any suggestion he’d sacrifice one competition at the expense of another and so will continue asking his men to put one foot in front of the other, no matter the distance still to cover.”

Can Rangers win an unforgettable quadruple?

It has been a stunning turnaround for Rangers this season, with the Ibrox club once looking down and out under Michael Beale.

But Clement has worked wonders in the dugout since taking over, with a phenomenal quadruple on the cards for the Scottish giants.

The Gers currently sit top of the Scottish Premiership table, two points ahead of fierce rivals Celtic, a gap that could have been bigger had it not been for the recent home slip-up against Motherwell.

Clement has also guided his side into the last four of the Scottish Cup, where they take on Hearts having knocked out their Edinburgh rivals Hibernian in the quarter-finals.

And in Europe, there is a great chance of Europa League progression after a 2-2 last 16 first leg draw with Benfica.

Success has, of course, already been clinched by the Belgian in his debut season in Scotland, with the manager having lifted the League Cup earlier in the campaign.

‘We’ll Beat You’ – Alan Brazil, AP McCoy gang up on Ally McCoist over Rangers v Celtic live on air

The talkSPORT presenter and the former champion jockey both had digs at Ally McCoist live on the station (13 March) as they argued the Hoops’ case after the losing the league lead to the Light Blues.

Since Philippe Clement’s arrival at Ibrox a seven point deficit at the top of the table has been turned into a two-point advantage, although the Gers have only won two Old Firm derbies in the Scottish Premiership across the past three seasons.

After McCoy had dismissed the turnaround this term by claiming (9.45am), “It was getting a bit boring beating Rangers all the time”, McCoist asked his opposite number, “have you given up in the league?”

“No, no, no the league’s over,” replied Brazil. “I’ve told you before, the league’s over. We’ll beat you at Ibrox and at Parkhead.”

Rangers reverse title race with Celtic ahead of April Ibrox clash

Celtic fans obviously have to put a brave face on giving up their sizeable advantage in the league since the departure of Michael Beale, with Brendan Rodgers now the man under more pressure.

But they are far from out of it despite the major revival under Clement, and the Belgian still has to get an Old Firm win.

It would clearly be a major disappointment to miss out on a first SPFL title in three seasons from this position, but with one trophy already secured and extensive injury issues as the club continues to fight on three further fronts it can’t be guaranteed.

There is confidence around Ibrox at the moment, despite the surprise defeat to Motherwell in the most recent league game, but if they keep losing players at the current rate it remains to be seen how long they can keep up their challenge in all directions.

Philippe Clement has turned things around at Rangers

Rangers are into the Scottish Cup semi finals against Hearts and have a second leg in the Europa League last 16 against Benfica after a 2-2 draw in Lisbon.

Dujon Sterling wants four trophies, but however many the club finish with this season it has been a huge improvement from the opening months of the season.

Rangers exit deal wanted before season end to replace France-bound man – report

The Turkish journalist for Sabah and Fotomac reported via his YouTube channel on 12 March that the Turkish defender is being lined up to depart the Super Lig, with the value of bids expected to increase towards the end of the season.

The club has therefore already decided to go after Barisic in his place, with the Croatian’s contract at Ibrox expiring in the summer and leaving him free to discuss terms with European clubs.

Trabzonspor are looking to sign up to seven players before the current campaign ends, with the Rangers man an early target and talks set up with his agent already.

Rangers defender wanted to replace France-bound Trabzonspor man

Since Barisic’s talks with Rangers have not reached a positive conclusion despite being open months [Football Scotland, 3 November] then he looks set to go.

The Croatian’s delivery is as good as anyone in the SPFL but his defensive work has often seen him come in for criticism.

Now that he has lost his place to Ridvan Yilmaz the club can probably afford to let the 31-year-old go, given Brazilian Jefte is on the cards to come in at the end of the season.

It will however mean another senior player leaving the club for no fee, after the likes of Ryan Kent, Alfredo Morelos and Filipe Helander all departed for nothing in the summer.

Left-back had been an issue ever since the big-money departure of Calvin Bassey two summers ago, with Yilmaz taking a long time to establish himself at Ibrox.

Now that he finally has it looks like Barisic’s time in Glasgow is set to end, although the 22-year-old has also been tipped to potentially leave in a big-money deal himself after strong links to a Turkish move on his own in January.
