In footage posted by Sky Sports (13 March), the news outlet showed attacking midfielder Cantwell back in training with the main group after missing the last several weeks with injury.

Ross McCausland and Scott Wright were also spotted being put through their paces at Auchenhowie ahead of the game.

The Bears are set to take on Benfica in the second leg of their Europa League last 16 tie on Thursday at Ibrox, having drawn the first leg 2-2 in Lisbon without Cantwell being available.

Philippe Clement has been dealing with a huge host of injury problems ever since he came through the door at Ibrox, and things never really seem to be getting better.

As it stands all of Danilo, Abdallah Sima, Rabbi Matondo, Dujon Sterling and Oscar Cortes are out of the game on Thursday through injury in attacking areas, with the Colombian winger out for two months.

But the return of Cantwell and McCausland to training means that the boss finally has extra options to choose from, with Fabio Silva, Cyriel Dessers, Kemar Roofe and Scott Wright the only other fit players in the final third.

While it’s unlikely the former Norwich man will be able to come straight back in and play 90 minutes, having him available to either start the game or finish it could be key.

Clement hasn’t got many things wrong since coming to the club and his team choice will be key to getting a result and progressing, but having Cantwell back and available can only be a good thing.
