‘Iconic’ – Kris Boyd weighs in on possible return to Ibrox for Steven Gerrard

Kris Boyd has had his say on whether Steven Gerrard should return to Rangers if Giovanni van Bronckhorst gets sacked.

The Liverpool legend was sacked by Aston Villa after a less-than-impressive start to the Premier League campaign, leaving them lingering above the drop.

Boyd admitted that Gerrard had “moved on” from Ibrox and despite his iconic figure status, he reckons a switch back to the club would be a non-starter.

“No, I don’t think so. I think Steven has come up and done the job he needed to do in Scotland. He stopped Celtic from winning 10IAR,” said Boyd as quoted by the Glasgow Times.

“Moved on and it wasn’t meant to be at Aston Villa. Hopefully, you will see him back because he is an iconic figure of the game and you want to see him manage.”

Rangers

Never happening.

Gerrard coming back to save the day at Ibrox just isn’t happening, like Boyd said the club and Gerrard himself have moved on from his time in Scotland.

The former Liverpool man did a fantastic job with Rangers and completely rebuilt the squad to a level where they could compete for trophies.

Nevertheless, it’s up the debate whether or not fans would welcome him back with open arms, he left in a fairly acrimonious style.

If Rangers do choose to part ways with Giovanni van Bronckhorst, then a new manager with fresh tactics and ideas needs to come into the fold at Gers.

Gerrard’s former number two Michael Beale is doing a fantastic job at Queen Park Rangers and could be the solution Gers need to save their season.

Convincing him of leaving the Championship club would be tough however, and there’s no guarantee that he could come in and hit the ground running.
