Finance Guru: Significant windfall to be made as Rangers hand more power to chief

We’re delighted to welcome football finance expert Dr Daniel Plumley as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Rangers...

Dan Plumley has insisted that James Bisgrove could now have more power to push his role even further in the future at Rangers after a boardroom shake-up.

Bisgrove will jump into a new role at the end of the season, stepping into the shoes left by Stewart Robertson with John Bennett really kicking off the exodus at Ibrox.

The finance expert admitted that the new chief is very strong on a commercial level and bringing money into the club, something that could go even further now.

“You would imagine so the way it stacks up,” he exclusively told Ibrox News.

“Stepping up to that sort of role gives you ultimately more power and control. There’s probably a little bit within that, that the club are seeing that themselves because despite some of these things being perceived as controversial, I know the Sydney Cup idea did not go down well with the fans but it would have generated a significant amount of money for Rangers.

He is very commercially focused and it’s probably doing him a disservice as he doesn’t just have that about him, he’s very good at talent ID and leadership, the full package.

“But, we have seen him go very heavy on the commercial side of things and that has benefitted Rangers with some of the deals he has done. Him stepping up may be the club seeing this and seeing an opportunity to generate some significant money in that space which is the right thing to do.

Some of these things will always be controversial in the fan bases but certainly, he has lifted Rangers up in the commercial department.

It may give him more power to push that further in the future.”

Bennett will be hoping that his new-look team in the Ibrox boardroom can bring new success, both on the pitch and off it with new financial deals to be looked at.

With Bisgrove now inheriting more power in his new role, it would be no surprise to see that happen and he will be backed by those around him to do just that.

In other Rangers news, an out-of-court settlement is predicted to be on the cards after the latest legal developments at Ibrox
