‘Contenders’ – Keith Jackson moots Euro 2024 spot for Rangers ace, Celtic star also named

That is according to Daily Record journalist Keith Jackson, with Celtic star Callum McGregor in the same position.

The verdict comes after both players were ruled out of Steve Clarke’s squad for this month’s international friendlies.

“Steve Clarke named a 25-man Scotland squad – then admitted as many as five of them may face the chop from this summer’s Euros,” Jackson wrote for the Daily Record (12 March).

“The national boss accepts it’s likely to become a ‘brutal business’ as he whistles down the numbers before taking just 23 of them to the tournament training base in the idyllic Alpine town of Garmisch-Partenkirchen in June.

“Celtic skipper Callum McGregor and Rangers rival Ryan Jack are still to be added to the list of contenders having been ruled out of the up-and-coming friendly double-header against the Netherlands and Northern Ireland.”

Will Rangers star Ryan Jack make the Scotland Euro 2024 squad?

It remains to be seen exactly what Scotland manager Clarke will do with Jack this summer, with the Gers man having struggled with injuries all season.

The Ibrox star has managed 22 appearances in all competitions, with his time on the pitch severely disrupted by time on the sidelines, as has been the case for many Ibrox men in recent months.

Those issues may just force Clarke to leave Jack out of his squad for the major international tournament, especially given how Celtic star McGregor is certain to make the cut given his displays for club and country in recent years.

The likes of Premier League stars John McGinn, Scott McTominay and Billy Gilmour meanwhile will all be above Jack in the pecking order.

The Ibrox man featured from the bench in the recent Europa League clash with Benfica, playing 13 minutes in the 2-2 draw.

Rangers manager Philippe Clement

But that has been the story of his season so far, with the midfielder being handed sporadic minutes here and there across the various competitions.
