Senior Rangers man invited to jet out and sign deal to leave Ibrox – report

The Turkish outlet claimed in a report on their website (13 March) that the Croatian defender has now been invited to the country to complete a deal.

The Super Lig side is said to be moving assertively to complete signings before the end of the current season and negotiations over a deal for Barisic are apparently moving fast.

The 31-year-old’s Ibrox deal is set to expire at the end of the season so he has been free to negotiate a move to European clubs since January.

Borna Barisic set for Rangers exit after Ridvan Yilmaz emergence

If Barisic wants to play in the Turkish Super Lig then there doesn’t look to be much standing in the way of a deal getting done.

Trabzonspor certainly seem intent on making a move for him as they appear to have made him the first target in a proposed haul of signings before the end of the season, and a gap is expected to open up at left-back in their squad.

Philippe Clement had indicated soon after his arrival at Ibrox that he was in favour of retaining the veteran’s presence [Football Scotland, 3 November] but months after contract talks opened no deal has been forthcoming.

Since the club have been trying to sign a new man at the position anyway they presumably couldn’t make the numbers work for a second, or possibly third choice player.

Ridvan Yilmaz
Ridvan Yilmaz has now displaced Borna Barisic in the Rangers side.

It looked like it would be Ridvan Yilmaz making a return to Turkey in January but while that ultimately didn’t happen it seems a Rangers left-back will be heading there after all.

After 230 Rangers appearances so far Barisic has put a shift in, although the performances have sometimes fluctuated and it is looking like he won’t add too many more now.
